Unanswered QuestionsMay 7, 2007 I think that religion is at its best when it asks questions and at its worst when it seeks to answer them. - Karen Armstrong This comment by one of the foremost religious historians and commentators of our time seems very much in tune with the school of thought that says that sometimes the journey is more important than the destination. However, as human beings we are seldom content with unanswered questions. If we were, much of the progress that has taken place over our history would not have happened. Unanswered questions are like an itch that many of us can not ignore until we can scratch. Perhaps it is not so much that religion should not try to answer questions as it is that it should not try to answer them absolutely. To frame its questions so that the answers, rather than being the destination, simply open the way to a new step on a timeless journey.

I welcome opportunities to speak to groups of all
