Q&A |
Order Out of ChaosNovember 2, 2006 In a recent Soft Edges column, Jim Taylor suggested that human beings develop organized systems out of our own needs. That perhaps it is we, and not God, who are uncomfortable with a disorderly universe. I like Jim's suggestion. I wonder though, if we need to add a consideration. Perhaps it is not that the universe is chaotic. Perhaps it is just that, as creatures of limited understanding, we cannot see the order that exists because of its magnitude. Fractal mathematics, which can discern the patterns in natural systems, was once considered an impossible goal. Now, we use it casually to create imaginary worlds or to analyze our own. There is, after all, order underlying the seeming chaos. The Golden Rule also brings order out of chaos. Not through the application of complex mathematical formulas, but through the realization of the universal basic human need for relationship. By accepting that we are all in relationship to one another and to all of Creation, we too can begin to bring order out of chaos. to comment, please email comment@goldenruleradical.org |

I welcome opportunities to speak to groups of all
kinds about the universality of the Golden Rule. |
